300 words a day!

300 words a day!
I am borrowing the below quote,

“The best recent advice I’ve seen about overcoming writing procrastination comes from an anecdote in the irreverent best-selling self-improvement book, “The Subtle Art of Not to Giving a F*ck: The Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Better Life.” In the book, author Mark Manson recounts a story of a novelist who had written more than 70 books. The novelist’s advice for how he is so prolific, according to Manson: “200 crappy words per day, that’s it.”

Of course, Manson points out, the novelist rarely stops at 200 crappy words because the action of generating those first few paragraphs motivates him to keep going. Even non-professional writers get in a rhythm and it can be as difficult to stop as it was to get started. The 200 crappy words almost serves as a warmup to the real workout of writing 1,000 or 2,000 words.”

Of course, I had to set my goals higher as I have more years behind me than I do ahead of me- my daily goal is 300 words first thing in the morning, which yesterday was a good 1000-word day! 2000 words is a great day! My writing program shows my goal and the time I spend writing. The above book was a gift from my kids a while back. It’s a fast read and puts life in perspective.

My cut-out cookies got made and hidden from my husband! My family room in the basement, which was a pit, is Christmas-ready. Breakfast this morning has been a Red Bull and Motrin as I sit on my electric blanket, as yesterday was a workout-cleaning marathon, and I am exhausted! To QuillSnap I go on another foggy morning!

  1. First thing in the morning is a great time to reach goals. My baking is coming in on a tray from a local baker, cleaning done and busy crappy gifts. Think I’ll set morning goals as well!

  2. Loving your blog! I have always told myself I could be done with writing a book if I just wrote every day. I will really try to follow your advice here. If I stuck to it, I would be done by the end of this year. You are an inspiration, and I love seeing all you are doing.

  3. I love your cutout cookies, it is the only ones I make. I still remember the first time you bought me some when we lived in Harlan!!! Best cutout cookies ever!😋💖
