Wrapping Presents by Candlelight and Sugar Cookies
Last night, Rudolph’s shiny nose would have been incredibly useful! Unfortunately, we experienced a power outage that lasted for 90 minutes, preventing me from baking the cut-out cookies I had planned for the holiday festivities. Although the kitchen was dark, I made the best of the situation and wrapped presents by candlelight, creating a cozy and festive atmosphere. This morning, as I do every day, I head to QuillSnap at 5:30 AM. I always look forward to my routine, which includes quiet, sipping on my hot chocolate—sugar-free, of course—while I prepare for the day ahead. Kitty Gracie spent the night and is in her window seat as my ghostwriter this morning.
Cut Out Sugar Cookies
- 1 cup of magarine
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 cup of flour
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 4 tablespoons milk
Cream margarine and sugar, add eggs and beat. Alternate adding the dry ingredients with milk. Chill overnight or they are too sticky to work with. Spread work area with a lot of flour and roll out part of the dough to about a ¼ inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Bake 8 minute at 350* These freeze wonderful.
I either used Betty Crocker frosting to ice these cookies when I am in a hurry or used the following:
Frosting
- ½ bag of powdered sugar
- ½ stick of soft margarine
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 teaspoons almond
- 1 teaspoon of meringue powder
- enough warmed milk to mix for the consistency you want, adding a couple of tablespoons at a time. Mix on low till blended then beat in high till smooth
Shoot! Sorry you were out of power. 😔 Wrapping presents by cancle light sounds festive tbough. The meringue power in the frosting…not sure I have heard of that. I will have to try it. I plan to pick up a copy of the book for my mom for Christmas.
So sorry you lost power! Our Direct TV waffled but we never lost power. Our friends in Coralville were out for a couple of hours when a transformer blew up! Hope you’re warm & cozy today!
Sorry you were without power. I will have to try your recipes.
